Pixlr tutorial: add text to image: How to make an author logo for an author Facebook page cover photo

26 March, 2014 by ES Ivy

This is a continuation of the Pixlr tutorial on how to make a Facebook page cover photo for your author page in Pixlr with a Pixlr template.

If you’re using this as a Pixlr tutorial, in this post we’re going to cover opening a blank image or opening a new image window, adding text to an image using the type tool (I keep calling it the text tool), changing the text font and font size in Pixlr, and working with image layers.

In this post, I’m going to show you how to make an author logo. Basically it’s your name written in a fancy style, with a tagline if you want one. For me, that’s “ES Ivy,” and I’ll add the tagline “children’s author.” (I tried to come up with something catchier, but I haven’t been able to decide on anything.)…

Pixlr tutorial: How to make an author Facebook page cover photo

25 March, 2014 by ES Ivy

If you’re using this as a Pixlr tutorial, we’ll be using Pixlr for free photo editing. In this post you will learn how to open an image from a web URL in Pixlr, how to undo in Pixlr, and I’ll introduce layers in Pixlr and image size in Pixlr (in other words, on images, what does 200 x 200 mean? What are pixels?).

I will assume that you know nothing about using Pixlr for on-line free photo editing. I only started using it a few months ago, so I really know what it’s like to know nothing. 🙂 Fortunately, I have a little Photoshop in my distant past and a resident Photoshop whiz, TechnoTim, for consulting.

In this series of posts, I’m going to show you step-by-step how to create a stunning cover photo using Pixlr for free online photo editing. I’ll even provide a free Pixlr Facebook page cover photo template for Pixlr to make it easier!…

How to create a Facebook author page, step 2: signing up for the Facebook page

5 March, 2014 by ES Ivy

This is the second in a short series of posts where I’ll show you how to set up a Facebook author page. In the first post, I went over Facebook profile vs. Facebook page and how to sign up for a profile first.

Now we’re going to sign up for a Facebook page….

How to create a facebook author page, step 1- Facebook Profile or Facebook Page?

4 March, 2014 by ES Ivy

how to create a facebook author page example cover photoThis is the first in a couple of posts that will show you how to  create a Facebook author page for an author or book series.

I know that Facebook’s popularity has been waning. Apparently there have been some changes in their rules that meant that book sales driven by author’s Facebook presence dropped off a cliff. Younger people are said to be leaving Facebook in droves. The number of new users was flat for the first time last year. So why am I taking the time to create a Facebook page?

Reaching readers and buyers of middle grade novels is difficult, if not impossible on-line. An informal survey of moms has shown me that Facebook is just about the only place they go on-line besides their personal email. Other web users may be going elsewhere, but quite frankly moms don’t have the time to learn anything new until what they’re using is completely broken. So I’m hoping Facebook won’t completely break for a few more months, at least.

Before I set up my Facebook author page, the above was all I knew about Facebook. I’ve never had a personal Facebook profile, never wanted one, never needed one. So, once again I’m a complete  newbie when everyone on the web just assumes you know how to do something. A lot of the information I did manage to find was out of date. So I’ve summarized what I’ve learned here….

Youtube videos: how to embed a Youtube video in wordpress, change Youtube end and start times and delete recommended videos on Youtube

24 January, 2014 by ES Ivy

Youtube video in WordPress and customizeThis post I’ll cover Youtube videos in WordPress and Blogger. I’ll go over: how to embed a Youtube video, how to customize the Youtube video end times and start times, and how to delete the recommended videos, all without using a plugin. Plugins are great, but they can slow down your site. So if I can do without them, I do.

I couldn’t find this anywhere on the web and I’m tickled to death that I figured it out myself! I’m not a computer coder. So if I can do it, you can too. The beautiful part is that we’ll only be working in the text editor of your post. You won’t be touching any code that can mess up your entire site….
